«UEFA shows this FIFA the red card»
The UEFA Executive Committee met today in Warsaw and issued the following statement:
Today’s events are a disaster for FIFA and tarnish the image of football as a whole.
UEFA is deeply shocked and saddened by them.
These events show, once again, that corruption is deeply rooted in FIFA’s culture.
There is a need for the whole of FIFA to be “rebooted” and for a real reform to be carried out.
The upcoming FIFA Congress risks to turn into a farce and therefore the European associations will have to consider carefully if they should even attend this Congress and caution a system, which, if it is not stopped, will ultimately kill football.
The UEFA member associations are meeting tomorrow ahead of the FIFA Congress. At that point, the European associations will decide on what further steps need to be taken to protect the game of football.
In the meantime, the members of the UEFA Executive Committee are convinced that there is a strong need for a change to the leadership of this FIFA and strongly believe that the FIFA Congress should be postponed, with new FIFA presidential elections to be organised within the next six months.
Liga Europa – Final – Sevilla – Dnipro
Numa animada final, hoje disputada em Varsóvia, o Sevilla repetiu a vitória na Taça UEFA (que alcançara também já na época passada, então frente ao Benfica), ao ganhar ao Dnipro, da Ucrânia, por 3-2 (dois golos do colombiano Carlos Bacca, e o primeiro do polaco Grzegorz Krychowiak), confirmando o favoritismo e a sua teórica superioridade frente a uma equipa estreante em finais, mas só depois de ter começado por sofrer o primeiro tento, tendo ainda consentido o empate a dois golos a fechar o primeiro tempo.
O clube andaluz obteve assim o seu quarto troféu na competição, de que é agora recordista isolado. Paralelamente, com o triunfo desta noite, o Sevilla garante também o apuramento para a fase de Grupos da Liga dos Campeões da próxima temporada, na sequência de uma inovadora regulamentação estabelecida pela UEFA.
No Palmarés da prova, após as seis edições já disputadas sob o formato de Liga Europa, são os seguintes os vencedores: Sevilla (2014 e 2015), Chelsea (2013), At. Madrid (2010 e 2012) e FC Porto (2011).
